Feedback control

Testicular hormones exert a negative feedback control on the secretion of LH and FSH. Testosterone itself and also estradiol and DHT are involved in the negative feedback action, which is exerted both at the level of the hypothalamus (reducing LHRH pulse frequency and amplitude), and at the level of the pituitary by reducing production and release of LH and FSH. The negative feedback action of estrogens on the secretion of LH and FSH is evidenced by the resulting rise of LH and FSH following administration of agents that pharmacologically reduce estrogen action (anti-estrogens and aromatase inhibitors).
